Everyone remembers where they first heard the news
At least those of a certain age on that wet winter night
It seemed like the whole world knew Neon's name
But each saw a different man, none the same
A luminescent reflection of our thoughts

The life of Neon it could tug at the heart
Or beg in horror for the visions to depart
The life of Neon exposed hidden contrasts
Blinding, searing, crystal white memories recast

To some he was a Judas, to others another Christ
A scheming money lender or a beggar brutalized
He hustled sex on street corners, he enforced the blue laws
He lived in a silver penthouse where his servants called him son
And everyone saw Neon as the nexus in the flux

The life of Neon it could tug at your heart
Or beg in horror for the visions just to start
The life of Neon exposed hidden contrasts
Blinding, searing, crystal white memories recast

Then time stopped for an instant to catch its breath
After that it bolted across a zig-zagging path

Rumors swept around the globe on fragile bits of light
A gunman or a heart attack, some punk with a rusty knife
Rampant speculation of the most capricious type
Fueled by fear, raw joy and pain that mirrored uncommon grief
But in the end no cause was found for his demise

The death of Neon weighed down every heart
And our vision became black, white and stark
The death of Neon exposed unknown bonds
A clotting fusion of regrets at memories recast
